Juan Antonio Luna (born May 17, 1959 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican soccer coach and former player who mainly played in midfield . Luna was an important regular player in the most successful Club América team in the history of the Mexican Primera División , which won a total of five championship titles between 1984 and 1989. Luna had successfully participated in the first four titles.
Life
Stations as a player
Luna played his first game in the Mexican Primera División on October 14, 1979 at the Superclásico Mexicano between Chivas and America, which ended 1-1. His first first division goal was on December 16, 1979 in the 4-1 home win of Club America against Puebla FC , when he made the final score of 4-1 in the 77th minute.
His last game for America, he played on the last day of the league round of the 1987/88 season in a 2-0 away win in Puebla. In the subsequent Liguilla he was no longer used and moved at the end of the season to the then city rival Necaxa , where he was under contract for the next four years until the end of the 1991/92 season. In the 1992/93 season he ended his active career in the dress of Puebla FC, for which he was only used three times. Luna played his last first division game on November 1, 1992 in a 1-0 away win against Chivas Guadalajara.
National team
Between 1980 and 1987 Luna completed a total of 18 appearances for the Mexican national team , in which he scored two goals.
He made his debut in the national team's dress in the 1-0 defeat by South Korea on February 28, 1980. He scored his first international goal on October 18, 1980 in the World Cup qualifier against Canada, in which the late equalizer for 1 : 1 succeeded in the 89th minute. His second and final goal for "El Tri" he scored to lead 1-0 in the 38th minute in the 3-2 win over China on March 17, 1987.
Stations as a trainer
Luna celebrated his greatest success as a coach at the end of the 2001/02 season when the Club San Luis he coached won the championship of the second-rate Primera División 'A' and made it to the top division. There Luna trained the team during the 2002/03 season .
In the following years he worked as head coach for the Tigrillos UANL (2003/04), a branch team of the Tigres UANL , as well as the Aguilas de la Riviera Maya (2005/06) and the Socio Águila FC (2007-2009), branch teams of the club America, where he already worked as an assistant coach in the first division during the 2004/05 season .
After further positions in the service of his former club San Luis (2009) and Club Tijuana (2010), Luna was most recently under contract as an assistant coach in the second division season 2011/12 with the Reboceros La Piedad .
