Juan Carlos Valerón Santana (born June 17, 1975 in Arguinegin , Gran Canaria ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career

Valerón began his career with the Spanish club UD Las Palmas . From 1997 to 1998 he played for RCD Mallorca , from 1998 to 2001 for Atlético Madrid .

In 2001 he finally moved to Deportivo La Coruña . In La Coruña, the midfielder has long been nicknamed Juan Carlos II. The transfer fee for Valerón when he moved in 2001 was 14 million euros.

On January 22, 2006, Valerón suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee during the Primera Division game against RCD Mallorca (2-2) . After a very good season up to then, he scored five goals in 20 league games, Valerón would have had a good chance of playing at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. On January 7, 2007, he made his league comeback as a substitute in the game against Real Madrid . After the relegation of Deportivo La Coruña at the end of the 2012/13 season , Valerón left the club after 13 years. He moved back to his "hometown club" UD Las Palmas for the current 2013/14 season.
