Juan Gómez Bárcena

Juan Gómez Bárcena (born December 5, 1984 in Santander , Spain ) is a Spanish author , literary critic and lecturer .

Life

Bárcena studied literary theory and comparative literature as well as history at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and philosophy at the National Distance Learning University (UNED).

In 2012, Bárcena published a collection of his stories under the title Los que duermen . His first, multiple award-winning novel El cielo de Lima was published in 2014. In it he takes up an episode from 1904 in a creative way in which Juan Ramón Jiménez, known for his love poetry, fell victim to a bad joke that struck him deeply: Two For a long time, would-be poets staged an exchange of letters from a young and beautiful fictional resident of Lima who allegedly fell in love with him , admired and criticized his poetry and made him his muse . The 2017 novel Canada is about a Holocaust survivor who returns from the camp and addresses trauma, guilt and memory.

Bárcena lives today (2019) as a writer and lecturer in creative writing in Madrid.
