Juan Gomez de Mora
Juan Gómez de Mora (* 1586 in Cuenca , † 1648 in Madrid ) was a Spanish Renaissance - architect and one of the main representatives of the late Herrera style .
Life
Juan Gómez de Mora was the son of the court painter Juan Gómez and nephew of the architect Francisco de Mora (around 1553-1610). After the death of his uncle, he was taken over by the Spanish King Philip III at the age of only 24 . (r. 1598–1621) appointed chief architect (maestro mayor de obras) for the construction of the Alcázar of Madrid , which was destroyed by fire in 1734 . Even under his successor Philip IV (ruled 1621–1665) he received important planning and construction contracts.
