Juan José Estrada Morales (born January 1872 in Managua , Nicaragua ; † July 11, 1947 ibid.) Was a Nicaraguan general and president of the country from 1910 to 1911.

Life

Juan José Estrada was appointed governor of the Zelaya Department by José Santos Zelaya of the Partido Liberal . Through the US consul in Bluefields , Thomas P. Moffatt, Estrada was assured the support of the US government for an uprising against Zelaya. He then led insurgent troops against government forces.

Estrada won the presidency with political backing from the US, which helped him in the rebellion against General Zelaya . Having come to power in the turmoil of the Zelaya succession struggles, he called for the election of a constituent assembly which, on the very day of its constitution, on January 1, 1911, elected him as constitutional president pro tempore for a period of two years. However, he was prevented from completing his term of office by his conservative comrades in arms. He was succeeded by Adolfo Díaz .
