Juan Kouyoumdjian
Juan Kouyoumdjian (* 1971 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a globally successful sailor and designer of regatta and cruising yachts .
In his youth, Kouyoumdjian sailed on optimists and later switched to the Star boat class . He sails successfully in this boat class to this day.
Because of his passion for sailing, he finally began studying yacht construction in Southampton , which he completed in 1993 with a degree in “Yacht and Small Craft Design”. Kouyoumdjian gained his first experience in the America's Cup with the French team Le Défi when they participated in 1995. Just two years later he founded his own company, Juan Yacht Design. Also in 2000 he accompanied the America's Cup participation of Le Défi before moving to the competing Italian team Prada in 2003. At the 32nd America's Cup, he was finally a member of the design team for BMW ORACLE Racing.
However, Kouyoumdjian's greatest successes to date were achieved with his designs for the Volvo Ocean Race . He designed the winning yacht for three editions of this regatta. For the Volvo Ocean Race 2011–2012 he designed the design for 3 yachts.
