biography

Juan Miguel Pozo Cruz was born in Banes (Cuba) in 1967 . When he was a child, his parents moved to Isla de Pinos and later to the big city of Havana . There he began studying art at the University of Havana . Here he developed his own artistic style, which deals with the landscapes of Cuba, but especially the streets of Havana. Initially, he presented his paintings on the streets near Havana Cathedral .

In 1994 he was discovered there by a journalist who made known artists such as Konrad Klapheck aware of the Cuban painter; the artists then campaigned for Pozo to receive a scholarship at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Pozo first lived in Düsseldorf , later in Wiesbaden , then for a while in Barcelona and since 2003 in Berlin .

When he got to know the music group Böhse Onkelz , the musicians got enthusiastic about his painting. Pozo was commissioned to design the title of the album "Adios" and also directed all of the video clips that were made for this album. The plate achieved a platinum success , and Pozo was also given a platinum plate for his collaboration. He also worked as a curator at many painting exhibitions in Germany .

subjects

He mainly uses political propaganda and urban elements in his work. These style elements are borrowed from neo- pop art . Other stylistic elements that flow into his work are small places he himself called forgotten memories , as well as insects and ruins.

Havana , Berlin and Madrid have become the main scenarios of his paintings and he pictorially captures these metropolises and their industrial past. On the stylistic level he mixes political propaganda with totalitarian graphics through a visual process. Children appear again and again in his paintings because they are the easiest to be influenced by totalitarian regimes with their political propaganda.

style

His style is a mixture of the New Leipzig School , Berlin aesthetics and his Cuban nature.
