Juan Pacheco de Toledo, 2nd Marqués de Cerralbo (* in Toledo ; † 1589 in Colibre ) was a Spanish diplomat and civil servant. From 1587 to 1594 he was governor of Galicia .

Life

Juan Pacheco comes from Casa Cerralbo , which was upgraded to a county by Charles V on January 2, 1533 under his father, the 7th lord of Cerralbo . His mother, Marina Fernández de Torres, died on January 20, 1547. Her tomb in the Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción in Lopera in the province of Jaén was created by Juan de Reolid in Gothic style. His father Rodrigo Pacheco, Osorio y de Toledo, Maldonado y Rojas, was Corregidor de Granada. His father's brother was Cardinal Francisco Pacheco de Toledo , the first Archbishop of Burgos.

In 1560 Pacheco was sent on a mission to England . In A Coruña , Calle Marqués de Cerralbo is named after Juan Pacheco. Under his command, a pirate siege under Francis Drake was repelled here in 1589 .

Juan Pacheco married Inés de Toledo Colona. Their son was Rodrigo Pacheco y Osorio .

Juan Pacheco de Toledo was Ambassador of Philip II of Spain to Emperor Ferdinand I and Ambassador to the Court of St James’s .

His title as governor was: Capitán General del Reino de Galicia .
