Judith Wittwer

Judith Wittwer Herter (born December 10, 1977 in Zurich ) is a Swiss journalist . Since July 2020 she has been co- editor-in-chief of the Süddeutsche Zeitung with Wolfgang Krach .

Career

After studying economics, law and political science (Master of International Affairs and Governance) at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) , Judith Wittwer joined the Tages-Anzeiger in July 2002 . She completed her traineeship and part-time diploma training at the MAZ - The Swiss School of Journalism . From 2004 she was the business editor for the Tages-Anzeiger, responsible for macroeconomics and the world of work. This was followed by positions as a correspondent in Germany and in the background and analysis department before Wittwer switched to Handelszeitung ( Axel Springer Verlag ) in Zurich in 2011 . There her focus was on the pharmaceutical industry.

In 2014 Wittwer returned to the Tamedia flagship Tages-Anzeiger, where she initially headed the staff position of the editor-in-chief and worked as head of news. From the beginning of 2015 to the end of 2017 she was a member of the editor-in-chief of the Tages-Anzeiger and the SonntagsZeitung . From 2018 to June 2020 Wittwer was editor-in-chief of the Tages-Anzeiger, based in Zurich, and around 300 employees. In March 2020, the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Tamedia announced that Wittwer would succeed Kurt Kister as editor-in-chief of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in summer 2020 , whereby the previously separate responsibilities for print and online no longer existed. Since July 15, 2020 she has been managing editor-in-chief of the Süddeutsche Zeitung together with Wolfgang Krach .

From mid-2018, Wittwer was a board member of the Quality in Journalism Association (QuaJou).

She is married and has two daughters.
