Judith (* 925 ; † June 29, soon after 985 ) was Duchess of Bavaria and one of the most important women in the political history of Bavaria in the Middle Ages .

Judith was the eldest daughter of Duke Arnulf the Evil of Bavaria and his wife Judith of Friuli . Judith belonged to the Liutpoldinger family. She was the wife of Duke Heinrich I of Bavaria († 955). The marriage between Judith and Heinrich was probably decided during the reign of Duke Arnulf. Judith may have been related to the Marquis of Friuli, which Henry used as a justification to gain the Lombard royal crown. Through this marriage the membership of the Duchy of Bavaria to the emerging German Empire was promoted.

Judith was not only the mother of Heinrich the quarrel , for whom she was the guardian for a decade from 955, but also of Hadwig , who became Duchess of Swabia at the age of 15 , and of Gerberga , who became the abbess of the Gandersheim monastery .

After Heinrich's death, the Duchy of Bavaria was transferred to his son, Heinrich the Quarrel, who was 4 years old at the time. Since he was not of age at the time, his mother Judith took over the reign. She had supported her husband's policy during his lifetime and thus opposed the political views of her relatives. During Heinrich's reign there is no known influence on her part on political events. Apart from a few documents, little is known about her reign.

After a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, she lived in the Niedermünster monastery in Regensburg from 974 . Like her husband, she was buried there.
