Judy Cheeks (born February 13, 1954 in Miami ) is an American disco , pop and house singer.

Career

Judy Cheeks began singing in church at a young age. Her father, the gospel singer and preacher Reverend Julius Cheeks, was a member of the gospel groups The Sensational Nightingales and The Soul Stirrers . Her own career began in 1973 with United Artists . The LP Judy Cheeks produced by Ike and Tina Turner with the single releases Endlessly and You Flu did not bring the hoped-for breakthrough.

It wasn't until a few years later, when Cheeks lived in Germany and was under contract with Ariola, that she achieved an international disco hit with Mellow Lovin ' . In the USA, the recording was released on the Salsoul label, which specializes in disco music, and Tom Moulton mixed the piece. It reached number 10 on the American disco and number 65 on the pop charts. Cheeks recorded a second LP and also sang a duet with Udo Juergens . Once when you go was a minor hit in the Netherlands (1978 place 21). In the following years other singles such as Don't Wanna Love You Again (1979), Mercy and Starting Again (On a New Love Affair) (1980) as well as an LP for the Italian market were released.

After the failure of the LP No Outsiders , Cheeks made an amazing comeback in the mid-1990s. With the house compositions So in Love (The Real Deal) and Reach , she had great success, especially in Great Britain. In 1995, things went even better in the USA, when their two consecutive number one hits with Respect and As Long As You're Good to Me hit the disco charts. The 1996 album Respect contained the aforementioned hits as well as the single You're the Story of My Life , a dramatic ballad written by Desmond Child .

Despite these great successes in dance, Cheeks became quiet again in the following years. She withdrew into her private life for several years. In 2013 she released a new single, Happy , which brought her back to her gospel roots. The album True Love Is Free followed in the summer of the same year .
