Judy Irola

Judith Carol Irola (born November 23, 1943 in Fresno , California ) is an American cinematographer and professor at the University of Southern California .

Life

Judith Carol Irola grew up as the daughter of a Basque shepherd in Fresno. She studied at Central California Commercial College and later moved to London where she worked as a secretary. Having as a librarian on a Air Force Base in Seville worked, it served 1966 to 1968 for two years at the Peace Corps in Niger . Upon her return to San Francisco , she became a secretary at KQED-tv , a PBS television station , where she later started making documentaries for the nightly news. From 1978 she lived in New York City , where she not only shot for international news channels, but also found work as a camerawoman for documentaries and feature films. Her feature film debut Caméra d'Or was awarded at the 1979 International Film Festival of Cannes the Caméra d'Or .

After returning to California in 1989, she became an assistant professor and director of the University of Southern California Film School in 1992. In October 2005, she received the Conrad Hall Endowed Chair in Cinematography and Color Timing .
