Ursula Roller (born October 23, 1936 in Obersontheim ) is one of the pioneers of the German hospice movement in addition to her commitment to the disabled and their families .

social commitment

The multiple disabilities of her youngest child and the reaction of the general public in her environment to this child led her to found a self-help group “Family meeting with handicapped people” in her community of Aichwald in 1977 with the aim of bringing together families with and without handicapped relatives. People with disabilities, regardless of the type of disability, should find friends and helpful neighbors in their everyday environment. This group comprised around 30 families at times and still exists today. The initiative found similar successors in various communities in the Esslingen district .

After the disabled daughter was integrated into Diakonie Stetten , she and her husband founded a self-help group “Parents help parents” in 1980 for parents whose disabled children live in this facility. She still leads this group today. The experiences made in this way led to the establishment of a democratically elected representative of relatives and carers in the Diakonie Stetten. Such an institution was not required by law then, as it is now, and was only founded on the basis of this model in many facilities for the disabled.

When Daniela Tausch founded an outpatient hospice group in Stuttgart in the 1980s, Ursula Roller signed up as a volunteer and stayed that way for ten years. She did it to realize the hospice idea in Esslingen and the surrounding area. In 1991 she founded an outpatient hospice group with the sponsorship of the Protestant and Catholic parishes in Esslingen am Neckar . Ursula Roller led this group for many years and trained the volunteers . Within ten years, the number of volunteers grew to over 50 people. During this time, Ursula Roller also gave impulses and support for numerous new hospice groups throughout Baden-Württemberg . Since 2009 she has been an honorary member of the Hospiz Association in Esslingen .

On the basis of her multiple hospice experiences, Ursula Roller suggested in Esslingen to set up advice on precautionary orders and powers of attorney for the population. The Esslinger Initiative Vorsorge - Self-Determination e. V. “developed.
