Juerg Albrecht

Juerg Albrecht (* 1952 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss art historian .

Albrecht studied German , art history and philosophy at the University of Bern and obtained a licentiate in German in 1977. From 1979 to 1980 he worked as a German teacher at the upper secondary school of the Solothurn Cantonal School. From 1980 to 1991 he was assistant and senior assistant at the art history seminar of the University of Bern with Eduard Hüttinger (1926–1998). In 1985 he received his doctorate in art history with a dissertation on Honoré Daumier .

Since 1991 Albrecht has been head of the art history department at the Swiss Institute for Art History SIK-ISEA in Zurich and a member of the institute's management. He retired in April 2015, and was succeeded by Katharina Ammann. Albrecht is the author of numerous works on Daumier and on modern and contemporary art, including Heartfield (1978/82), Goya (1985) and Duchamp (1987).
