history

Beginnings

In the 1960s, there was initially a tent camp on the site of today's youth education center. Little by little, other structures were added. The German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) of the GDR - today part of the University of Leipzig - carried out practical training in water driving for students here.

In 1989 the institution was under the State Secretariat for Physical Culture and Sport of the GDR. In the non-water season, training courses for those responsible for sports from the districts and cities took place here. There were also offers for university sports. With the decision of the last GDR government, the Blossin Water Sports and Training Center (WWZ) became a DHfK site again on October 3, 1990.

Post-turnaround time

With the annexation of the GDR to the FRG in October 1990, the state of Brandenburg took over the facility (after the site had initially belonged to Saxony in the course of the redistribution of the states) and endeavored to continue it with charitable objectives.

At the same time, the sports organization behind it was reorganized. In March 1990, the GDR youth sports team was re-established within the German Gymnastics and Sports Association (DTSB). The Brandenburgische Sportjugend (BSJ) was founded in Potsdam on September 8, 1990 and the DTSB was dissolved in December of the same year. Since then, the sports youth has been closely associated with the educational institution.

The facility should be preserved, especially for sports and leisure work in the sports clubs. As the official youth training center of the Brandenburg Sports Youth was in July 1991 between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the State of Brandenburg and the Sports Federation of Brandenburg agreed this as future use concept.

On June 23, 1992 the association Jugendbildungszentrum Blossin eV was founded as an independent sponsor of the BSJ educational institution and entered in the register of associations in June 1993. The charitable status was certified shortly afterwards. The aim was formulated to “enable young people to actively participate in social processes. The association is a non-profit organization and approved as a nationwide ' independent organization for youth work '. "

With the regional focus of the water sports area of the University of Leipzig (formerly DHfK), the former boat hall (today: Funsporthalle ) became available in 1998 for a gradual conversion into an adventure and exercise landscape with a climbing wall, low rope course, aerobics room, inline skating area, fitness room and disco.

In the period from September 1992 to May 1993, the bed house was rebuilt during ongoing operations and brought up to date in terms of comfort and requirements as a youth and seminar hotel. In 1996 the new cafeteria with 210 seats including a conference room and a small restaurant was added; In 2003 a large multi-purpose hall that can be used for major sports and cultural events. In spring 2007, the former bungalows on the so-called White Mountain were converted into comfortable single rooms for conference guests, including a modern seminar room with a view of Lake Wolziger.
