The youth symphony orchestra of the Leipzig Music School "Johann Sebastian Bach" is a German youth symphony orchestra .

history

In 1985 the Leipzig Youth Symphony Orchestra , also known as JSO, was founded as an institution of the Leipzig Music School "Johann Sebastian Bach" . The Bulgarian Ivan Ivanov took over the artistic direction.

Under the direction of Ron-Dirk Entleutner (artistic director since 2000), the Leipzig Youth Symphony Orchestra was invited to the Edinburgh Music Festival in 2003 as the only German youth orchestra .

In 2004 it received first prize in the Saxony state competition of the German orchestra competition and was delegated to Osnabrück for the federal competition. It returned from Osnabrück with a first prize and was thus a federal prize winner. In 2008 it again received 1st prize in the federal competition of the German orchestra competition in Wuppertal. In 2012, the youth symphony orchestra went home from the German orchestra competition in Hildesheim with the highest number of points and first prize in the national competition.

Since 2005, the MDR symphony orchestra has been organizing a joint project every year to illustrate the musical life of professionals to young musicians.

An outstanding event in the history of the ensemble was an invitation in March 2005 to Ethiopia for the festivities “100 Years of the German-Ethiopian Friendship Treaty”, which the ensemble followed. In July 2009 the JSO followed an invitation to a concert tour in the southern United States and in 2011 made a guest appearance at the “Eurochestries Festival” in Quebec (Canada).

In 2016, the Leipzig Youth Symphony Orchestra won the German Orchestra Prize as the best youth orchestra in Germany for the second time in a row with the highest score of 25.
