Jules Cohen
Jules Emile David Cohen (born November 2, 1830 in Marseille , † January 13, 1901 in Paris ) was a French composer and organist.
Cohen studied at the Conservatoire de Paris , where he was an organ student of François Benoist . There he received first prizes in solfège (1847), piano (1850), organ (1852) and counterpoint (1854).
From 1853 he was organist at the Saint-Merry church . He taught at the Conservatoire boarding school and in 1855 took over a class for vocal ensemble. From 1877 he was choirmaster of the Paris Opera .
In addition to romances, songs and works for worship use, Cohen composed a large number of pieces for the harmonium and four operas, which were premiered at the Opéra-Comique and the Théâtre-Lyrique .
