Julia Alvarez
Julia Alvarez (born March 27, 1950 in New York City ) is an American author .
Life
Alvarez lived in the Dominican Republic for the first ten years of her childhood , until her father and family had to flee to the United States for political reasons .
Alvarez is considered one of the most successful Latin American authors. She wrote five novels, four poetry books, four children's books and two works on adolescence .
Her first works were two poetry books: The Housekeeping Book (1984) and Homecoming (1991). She wrote her first novel in 1991: How the García Girls Lost Their Accents . He became very famous.
