Julia Cagé (born February 17, 1984 in Metz , Moselle Department ) is a French economist at Sciences Po Paris who specializes in development economics as well as political and historical economics .

Life

Cagé attended the Lycée Thiers in Marseille until she graduated . She then studied at the École normal supérieure in Paris until 2005 , before completing her bachelor's degree in econometrics at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2006 and her master's in economics with summa cum laude in 2008 . From 2010 she started a doctoral program at Harvard University in economics, in which she received her doctorate in 2014 . The title of her dissertation was Essays in the Political Economy of Information and Taxation . Since 2014 she is an assistant professor at Sciences Po Paris , where she in 2018 habilitated .

She has a sister and with the economist Thomas Piketty married, besides, she was in the election campaign by Benoît Hamon during the presidential election in 2017 in France responsible for the economy.

Save the media

In 2015 she published her book Sauver les Media , which was also published in Germany in 2016 under the name Rettet die Medien . The book has been translated into a total of eleven languages. In her book, she first presents the current financing models of media companies and then goes on to describe the problems of these, which result from the financing models. Finally, she analyzes the source of the problems and presents a form of shareholder democracy that does not require profit-making, which is intended to overcome the problems.

Tanjev Schultz reviews in the Süddeutsche Zeitung that he finds this model interesting, but doubts that it can be realized.
