Julia Reid

Julia Reid (born July 16, 1952 in London ) is a British politician of the Brexit Party and a member of the European Parliament . She belongs to the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group .

Life

Julia Reid studied biochemistry at Bath University . After graduating, she worked as a research assistant at Bath University. In 1998 she received her PhD in the field of pharmacology . She then served as the laboratory manager of the Diabetes and Lipid Research Laboratory at the Royal United Hospital. Further professional positions were a position at the Marian Merrell Dow Research Institute in Strasbourg and a position for Autogen Bioclear Ltd.

Political career

In 1981 Julia Reid joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) , the year the party was founded. She remained a member of the SDP until the merger of the SDP and the Liberal Party to form the Liberal Democrats party in 1988. Since Reid was against the positive position of the new Liberal Democrats party in relation to the European Union, she stayed in the SDP even after the parties merged, after it was re-established by some party members who were against the merger. After the SDP disbanded in 1990, Reid joined the newly formed UK Independence Party in 1993. In 2010 she ran for the seat in the House of Commons for the constituency of Chippenham and failed in the election with 3.4 percent of the vote. Julia Reid has been a member of the Calne, Wiltshire City Council since 2013 . During the election campaign for the 2014 European elections , she opposed the acceptance of Sharia courts in the United Kingdom. But she also distanced herself from statements calling for Islam to be banned from Great Britain. In 2014 Reid was elected to the European Parliament.

Reid is a member of the Regional Development Committee and a deputy on the Environmental , Public Health and Food Safety Committee .

2019 joined the newly formed Brexit party.
