Julian Beever (* 1959 in Cheltenham , Gloucestershire , England ) is a British artist best known for his street chalk works of art.

Life

Beever grew up in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire . After studying art at the University of Leeds (1979-83), he began street painting. He started with replicas of well-known paintings, then he discovered 3D painting for himself. He creates this effect with optical illusion: viewed from a certain angle , these images look like a three-dimensional scene with perspective . With some pictures you can hardly tell what is real and what is painted. This process is called anamorphosis .

Due to its high level of awareness, it also became interesting as an advertising medium. For example, he drew an open laptop in the London pedestrian zone .

In addition to his famous 3D pictures, Beever also creates murals and copies of great painters of the past, which he is also hired to create.

The images of his three-dimensional works on his website are sometimes mistaken for photomontages , but are real and only painted with street chalk.
