Julian Jay Savarin (born 1950 in Dominica ) is a British musician , composer and writer, best known as a science fiction writer .

Life

Born on the Caribbean island of Dominica, Savarin has lived in Great Britain since his youth. He was the organist and songwriter for the group Julian's Treatment . The group's two concept albums, A Time Before This (1972) and Waiters on the Dance, are to be assigned to progressive rock and depict content from Savarin's Lemmus trilogy, Savarin's best-known book, especially the first band, Waiters on the Dance, with the same title as the second album . Vernon Joynson rated the first album as worth listening to and particularly praised Cathy Prudens' dramatic spoken chants. The second album, however, he found organ-heavy and tough.

Lemmus is an extensive space opera in which human history and in particular the Judeo-Christian tradition ( Adam and Eve etc.) and other well-known legends ( Atlantis etc.) with the colonization of the earth by an advanced galactic civilization in the distant past is explained . The idea was no longer new in the early 1970s and so Brian Stableford judged : "Remarkable because of the repulsive lack of ideas and what is brought about has long since rotten." Both David Pringle and John Clute recognize the rationalization of biblical myths in Savarin's science fiction the well-known cliché of the Shaggy God story .

In addition to science fiction, Savarin also wrote a number of thrillers, some of which have been translated into German.
