features

Julidochromis marksmithi is 8 to 9, in exceptional cases 12 cm long and has the typical cylindrical, slender and elongated body of all Julidochromis species. The snout is pointed, the mouth is slightly below. The basic color is yellowish-brownish. Three dark brown to blackish longitudinal ligaments extend on the sides of the body. The lower one is only clearly pronounced in older fish. The head is marked with some dark, irregular spots or lines. The dorsal fin is yellow-brown in color and in the upper area has a black longitudinal band over which there is a bluish-whitish stripe, which is lined with black on the outside. The caudal fin shows the same color. The anal fin is dark on the outside and shows dark stripes in the rear area. Males are slightly larger than females and have a clearly visible genital papilla .

In contrast to Julidochromis regani , Julidochromis marksmithi has only three longitudinal ligaments on the sides of the body ( vs. four) and the species differs from Julidochromis dickfeldi by a dark stripe on the cheek.
