Salome Julie von Jenner (* 1787 in Bern ; † May 5, 1860 ibid) was a benefactor and founder of the Jennerspital in Bern.

Life

By will of August 27, 1858, Julie von Jenner set up a foundation with the purpose of building and running a hospital for the care of sick children. The hospital was set up at Gerechtigkeitsgasse 60. Later a new building south of the Inselspital could be moved into. The extension of the island in the mid-1970s brought an expansion of the Jennerspital. Since the beginning of the 20th century there had been a rapid development, so that the foundation could no longer finance the hospital operations on its own. As a result, the State of Bern paid most of the operating costs. The state gradually used the Jennerspital as a teaching facility and research institute for childhood diseases.

The foundation council of the Jennerspital at that time, the State of Bern and the management of the Burgerspital , as the heirs appointed by Fräulein von Jenner, therefore contractually agreed in 1962 to sell the buildings of the Jennerspital together with the inventory to the state of Bern and the sales proceeds in the form of a modified Jenner - To use the foundation to support sick children of needy parents. In this way, the will of the founder can be practically and legally implemented in an expedient manner.

The Jennerspital was subsequently integrated into the Inselspital and operated by it. The old hospital building was used as a children's clinic until 1978 and then for 20 years for various purposes. In 1998 the buildings were demolished.
