history

In 1624 the settlement, which had existed since the 13th century, was named the village of Poronin. A chapel was built in 1806 . In 1833 an independent parish was established with the Church of Maria Magdalena .

Lenin

From 1913 to 1914 Vladimir Ilyich Lenin spent the summer months in the Gutów-Mostowych inn. At that time Poronin was more important than Zakopane and the summer residence of famous personalities. Lenin met here often with comrades in arms. After persecution by the K&K authorities , Lenin left Poland.

In 1947 a Lenin Museum was established in the building of the inn. A statue of Lenin was erected on the adjacent square in 1950, a donation from the Leningrad workers . Until the museum closed in 1990, it was a pilgrimage site for supporters from the USSR , Poland and other allied countries. Therefore, all trains had to stop in Poronin.

The museum was closed in 1990 and the memorial was demolished. Today the building houses the community's cultural center.

Tourism, culture and sport

In Ząb is the stylish wooden church of St. Anne (Świętej Anny) with regional decor.

The city is still a popular winter vacation spot today. There was also a K30 - ski jump , the Galicowa Grapa . The operation was stopped in the eighties. Since then the facility has been falling into disrepair.

The 6th stage of the International Peace Tour in 1988 started on Sunday, May 15th in Poronin. Uwe Ampler won the mountain time trial / individual drive to Zakopane.

Transport and economy

The White Dohnst used to be important for wood rafting , today raft trips are organized for tourists.

The station on the Chabówka – Zakopane railway line is served by long-distance and local trains. Until 1990, all trains stopped at the station for the numerous visitors to the Lenin Museum.

Poronin is located on the national road 47 , the main connection to the Zakopane winter sports center.
