Julien Kurt Biere (* 1949 ) is a German media producer , author and communications consultant.

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Biere lived in England, where he worked in the music industry (Studio London by Polydor Records ) and as a drummer in the studio band "Nexus". In 1970 he moved to Munich, where, while studying, he wrote word-music programs for the Pop Sunday editorial team at Bayerischer Rundfunk and trained in the development of audio texts and audio production. In 1971 he joined the Third World solidarity movement, where he brought his knowledge of sound and image design and in 1972 the first developmental slide show (slide-AV) produced.

At the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , he studied sociology with Horst Holzer , as well as psychology, economics and geography. In 1976 he received a degree in sociology. In 1983 he received his doctorate. rer. soc. at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen with Reimer Gronemeyer . He researched basic audiovisual media and development awareness raising with reference to Alexander Kluge's realistic method , Paulo Freire's liberation pedagogy and his concept of Conscientização .

In 1972 he founded the “AVZ Basismedien - Center for Audiovisual Public Relations, acc. e. V. “, u. a. with the photographer Lothar Schiffler, the psychologist Luise Lehmann and Udo Pollmer , from which the "AV Academy for Media Education Research and Practice, Munich - Bonn" emerged. With the AV Academy, Julien Biere mainly produced development and peace education AV media for youth and adult education. Biere developed an advanced training model that promoted media competence, which was used in the 1970s and 80s in the training and supervision of German and Austrian development workers, the "workshop seminars for self-production of AV media".

In 1985 he founded the Münchner Tonbildtage , which by 1993 developed as Munich MultiMedia into the European festival for slide AV and multivision . In addition to teaching at universities in Hamburg, Furtwangen, Munich and Salzburg, Julien Biere wrote four textbooks, including a. “Professional Dia-AV” (Kodak Photo Book Prize) and “The Guide to Multi-Image”, two standard works in the AV industry. After the breakthrough in digitalization in photography, Julien Biere wrote the textbook “Goldene Scheiben” for the Photographie publishing house in collaboration with KODAK AG. In 1995 he founded the publishing house Weidmann & Biere Publishing and published several multimedia CD-ROMs. In 1999 he produced his first websites, including a. the online literature workshop “The Dream of Living in the South”.

Since the 1990s, Julien Biere has worked as a communications expert in bilateral and international development cooperation, primarily for the German Society for International Cooperation - GIZ (formerly GTZ). In addition to communication campaigns, print media and exhibitions, he primarily develops Internet solutions, a total of over twenty portals in German, English, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.

In 2004–2007 he developed the multimedia exhibition “REX - Regensburg Experience”, a multimedia information center on the history, present and future of the World Heritage City in collaboration with media IT specialist Jan Borchers from RWTH Aachen University, the University of Regensburg and ETH Zurich.

Since 2010 he has turned back to audiovisual production. 2013 he produced for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development , the films "Companies opportunities. Development ”and“ The world is on your side ”. Since 2015 he has been leading the cinematic research project on demographic change "Living Longer - What We Expect" (Living Longer - 50 Ways to Look at Age), which started in cinemas in 2018.

Julien Biere is the father of the computer scientist Armin Biere .
