Julio Castañeda (born November 11, 1985 in Ingeniero Jacobacci ) is an Argentine biathlete .

Julio Castañeda is a soldier who lives and trains in San Carlos de Bariloche . He has been a member of the Argentine national team since 2003, starts for Club de Montaña Cazadores de los Andes and is coached by Carlos Gaston Fanti. Since 2006 the Argentine competes regularly in the European Cup and its successor, the IBU Cup . The best result so far is a 68th place for an individual, achieved in Langdorf in 2008 . At the 2010 Biathlon South American Championships , he won the overall ranking with 174 out of a possible 180 points, making him the first South American champion. In Portillo he won the individual and the mass start, he finished the sprint race in second place behind Marco Zúñiga . In the sprint race held in Bariloche, Castañeda finished fifth. This made it his worst result in the racing series, the result of being eliminated in the overall standings.
