Biathlon South American Championships 2010

The 2010 Biathlon South American Championships were held in the form of a racing series from August 9th to 13th in Portillo, Chile, and from August 23rd to 28th in Bariloche , Argentina .

The first competitions in Portillo were held following the IBU-IOC Development Camp , which was to serve as a sporting development aid for the sport in South America. There were races in the individual, sprint and mass start for both men and women. A sprint and a pursuit race were also planned for Bariloche. If the weather and snow conditions were still good in Chile, the sprint in Argentina had to be postponed again and again due to snow storms and could only be carried out so late that the pursuit race could not be held. The three best results from the four races made it into the overall standings. Chilean starters did not start because of an earthquake in Chile in Argentina.

A total of 20 starters for men and ten starters for women took part in the competitions. The participants came from Argentina , Brazil and Chile . After the competitions in Portillo, Claudia Salcedo and Julio Castañeda were in the lead. After the sprint in Bariloche, both were able to maintain the lead and become South American champions.
