Julio Dalmao , full name Julio César Dalmao Iglesias , (born March 1940 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .
Career
society
Dalmao began his career at Club Atlético Cerro in the Uruguayan Primera División . There he was involved in the greatest success in the club's history when he became Uruguayan runner- up with the Albiceleste in 1960. That season he made 18 league appearances. He then went to Argentina in 1961 and joined Vélez Sarsfield . At the club from Buenos Aires he was in the squad until 1966. During this period he played 86 games for the Argentines. He did not score a hit.
Dalmao, who was active at a time when yellow and red cards were not yet introduced and the players were only warned by gestures by the referees, is described as an edgy, sometimes over-tough center- back with an impressive physical presence. After Dalmao's foul on the Atlanta winger José Luis Luna , he almost got an amputation of his right leg. As a result, there was a lawsuit. There was no conviction, however, because Dalmao then left the country. He then continued his career in New York with the Skyliners. Later he worked for Huracán Buceo , in whose steep sporting rise in 1970 he was involved in a third place in the table. Rentistas and Nacional were also his employers.
National team
Dalmao took part with the junior national team at the Junior South American Championship in 1958 and won the title with this team. During the tournament he was not used by coach Juan Aguilar . He was also a member of the Uruguayan national soccer team . Dalmao completed eleven international matches from May 2, 1959 to October 26, 1968. He did not succeed in scoring. With the Celeste he won the title at the second South American Championship in 1959 .
