Julio Perceval

Julio Miguel Perceval (born October 17, 1903 in Brussels , † September 8, 1963 in Santiago de Chile ) was an Argentine composer , organist and music teacher of Belgian origin.

Perceval studied at the conservatory in his hometown. In 1926 he came to Buenos Aires at the invitation of a film company that had offered him a job as a cinema organist. He soon worked as organist at the capital's cathedral, at the Colegio Nacional and at the Teatro Colón, and in 1930 became an Argentine citizen. In 1939 he was commissioned to found a conservatory at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo . He headed this until 1951, after which he was director of the Instituto Superior de Artes e Investigaciones Musicales for four years . In 1959 he was appointed to the chair for organ and composition at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago.

As a composer, he created more than fifty works between 1919 and 1963, including choral symphonic works, two piano concertos and songs, including Los Cuatro sonetos espirituales based on old French texts by Anne de Marquets . On his 100th birthday, the Faculty of Art and Design at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo honored him with an event attended by Silvia Nasiff , Gloria Basso , Miguel Puebla , Lars Nielsen , Lucía Thomé de Guisasola , Francisco Colombo , Julio Lonigro , Edith Peinado de Drago and Andrea Yurcic performed a selection of his works.
