Julius Flechtheim (born May 18, 1876 in Münster ; † November 30, 1940 in Zurich ) was a German lawyer , supervisory board member of several companies and honorary professor .

Life

He grew up as the eldest son of the grain wholesaler Alex Flechtheim and his wife Johanne, geb. Katzenstein, in Münster and attended the Paulinum grammar school . After studying law, he received his doctorate in 1897.

In 1901 he was admitted to the bar at the Cologne Higher Regional Court and also lectured at the Cologne Commercial College . During the First World War he became a member of the board of the United Cologne-Rottweiler powder factories in Berlin in 1915 . There he became honorary professor at the University of Berlin in 1924 , and in the following year head of the legal department and in-house counsel of IG Farben . He was also a member of the supervisory board of several other companies and a board member of the Reich Association of German Industry . The family lived there at Königin-Augustastraße 28. In private he supported his cousin, the art dealer Alfred Flechtheim , a. a. 1917 by auctioning the sculpture “Der Redner” by Georg Minne , acquisition of other works of art and loans.

In 1933 his teaching license and all other offices were withdrawn from him. He initially worked as a legal advisor and supported relatives in need. In April 1938 he emigrated with his family to Zurich, where he died in 1940.
