Julius Lichtenfels

Julius Lichtenfels (born May 19, 1884 - † June 29, 1968 ) was a German fencer. He is a two-time German champion and a two-time Olympic participant.

Life

Lichtenfels trained in Offenbach am Main under the Italian fencing master Cavaliere Gazzera at the Fechtclub Offenbach von 1863 e. V. Cornelia Hanisch and Helene Mayer also trained in this traditional club .

He took part in the Olympic Games twice. In 1908 at the games in London he achieved his best result as a member of the German epee team, which reached seventh place. In the individual competitions he was 61st with the sword and 43rd with the saber.

Four years later at the games in Stockholm Lichtenfels competed with all three weapons. He was 17th with the foil, 68th with the sword and 22nd with the saber. As a member of the German saber team, he finished seventh, with the sword team eighth.

Lichtenfels celebrated the greatest success of his career in 1913 when he became the German foil champion at the first national tournament in his hometown . The following year he was able to repeat this success with the saber. In addition, Lichtenfels was with the team of FC Offenbach in 1914 and 1920 German team champions in the sword, in 1923 and 1924 with the saber.
