Julius Moser (painter)

Julius Moser (born November 25, 1805 in Gumbinnen , † May 24, 1879 in Berlin ) was a German portrait , history and genre painter .

life and work

Julius Moser attended high school in Königsberg. From 1831 to 1836 he studied history and genre painting at the Berlin Art Academy . He was a student of Wilhelm Hensel . In the years 1837 to 1840 he stayed in Paris and was 1837-1838 student of Léon Cogniet and 1838-1840 student of Paul Delaroche . From 1840 to 1848 he was in Rome. Moser was a member of the Ponte Molle Society and was one of the founders of the German Artists' Association . He is buried in the Jewish cemetery Schönhauser Allee in Berlin.

Moser is primarily known as a portraitist of Berlin's Jewish bourgeoisie in the mid-19th century. He is a typical representative of the Biedermeier period .
