Morschenich-Neu is a district of the municipality Merzenich in the district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia .

The previous place Morschenich will be demolished in the next few years due to the expansion of the Hambach opencast mine . In January 2020 it was announced that Morschenich would not be demolished. The place is being rebuilt east of Landesstraße 264 .

The resettlement of the place was decided by the brown coal plan subplan 12/1 Hambach of May 11, 1977. On September 4, 2012, the agreement between the Merzenich municipality and RWE Power AG was concluded.

All buildings in the new development area are supplied by local heating . The use of solar panels on their roofs was contractually prohibited for the residents.

In 2017 the last rifle festival took place in Morschenich and at the same time the first in Morschenich-Neu.
