life and work

Bronze sculpture of a girl with flowers, made around 1890.

Although Schmidt-Felling worked as an artist for over 60 years, little is known about his life in literature. The sculptor was best known for his bronze Art Nouveau figures, which served a variety of subjects, including athletes, mythological warriors, nudes, workers, and children playing. Many of his works were handcrafted by the Berlin art foundry Gladenbeck , others by the small foundry Robert Kionsek. During the early Art Deco period , Schmidt-Felling incorporated the typical chryselephantine technique into his work and thus also worked with ivory .
