Karl Julius Platzmann (born January 31, 1832 in Leipzig , † September 6, 1902 in Leipzig) was a Saxon , German botanist , draftsman and linguist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Platzm. "

Life

Between 1858 and 1864 Julius Platzmann lived in Paranagua ( Brazil ) to study the local flora and fauna. It owes its place in the history of linguistics to his passion for collecting the vocabulary of Latin American languages. However, his writings were not recognized by science. Platzmann collected books on Indian languages that had been created by missionaries. He later published facsimiles of these books, initially in 1874 the facsimile of the Tupi grammar from 1595 by the Jesuit José de Anchieta . Facsimile editions of historical South American language books followed and finally included the languages Carib , Arawak , Tupí-Guaraní , Araucano , Quechua - Aymará and the Mexican Nahuatl (Aztec).
