Junimisten ( Rum. Gruparea junimistă ), name of a group of young conservatives in Romania from the literary society Junimea .

history

The literary society "Junimea" was founded in Jassy in 1863 by Petru Carp , Theodor Rosetti , Titu Maiorescu , Vasile Pogor and Iacob Negruzzi , among others . It was the most influential intellectual, cultural and political Romanian association of the 19th century. Dominating heads of the Junimea in the early years were primarily Titu Maiorescu in cultural matters and Petru Carp in political matters. With the magazine “Convorbiri literare” , the so-called Juneists gained culturally and politically influence from 1867 onwards.

In 1882 there were major differences of opinion between the political leaders of the Juneists around Petre Carp and Theodor Rosetti and the old conservatives. The future Prime Minister Petru Carp sought a reorganization of the conservative party. Because of this, the young and old conservatives split up. With Prime Minister Theodor Rosetti, the so-called "Junimistenkabinett" received government responsibility for the first time on March 23, 1888. Subsequently, their own party, the "Partidul Constituţional", was founded . On May 1, 1891, Petru Carp was elected president. Sixteen years later the conservative political parties in Romania merged and on April 21, 1907, Petru Carp was elected chairman of the "Partidului Conservator" .
