Jurassic Park Adventures: Survivor is the first of 3 spin-off books from Jurassic Park III . The author is Scott Ciencin . The 116-page book was published by Random House on June 12, 2001 .

Thematically, this book revolves around the character Eric Kirby. The 12-year-old is stranded on the island of Isla Sorna after an illegal paragliding tour with Ben, his mother's new friend . While Ben dies, the 12-year-old survives the accident. Timed the action takes place around 8 weeks before the film and deals with the survival of Eric Kirby.

At the beginning, the book introduces Eric's mother, Amanda Kirby and her new boyfriend, Ben Hildebrand. We learn that Ben is planning a trip to Costa Rica, off the coast of which is Isla Sorna . He's taking Eric on this trip. When paragliding in the boat tow close to the island, fog comes in. The boat driving beneath them begins to wobble, but the cause cannot be identified because of the thick fog.

When the fog clears, the boat crew has disappeared and the boat is heading for a rock. Ben loosens the rope and they both land roughly on the island. Ben dies a little later from the injuries he sustained.

Eric is forced to start exploring the island alone. After being chased by an Ankylosaurus and a herd of Compsognathus and injured in the process, Eric decides to take shelter in an old InGen building. However, this turns out to be a mistake as it is teeming with velociraptors . He barely gets away with his life.

He later finds a communications bunker and decides to call for help from there. However, here Eric gets into a fight between a pack of Velociraptors and a herd of Iguanodons . He's sacrificing his chance for help to save a young Iguanodon. He had befriended Iggy , as Eric calls him, before.

In the end, he returns to the jungle - believing that he will have to spend the rest of his life here.

• Despite the introduction of the dinosaurs, some animals of the original fauna survived on the island. Mentioned: sloths , quetzals and snakes .
• One learns. how Eric got the urine of a tyrannosaurus and the claw of a velociraptor. Both finds are later shown in the film to the paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant Presents.
• Other types of dinosaurs mentioned in the book are Triceratops , Pteranodon and Diplodocus .
