JPOG (Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis) is a computer game for the PlayStation 2 , the Xbox and Windows . It was developed in 2003 by Universal Interactive Studios , published by Vivendi Universal Games and belongs to the genre of business simulation and building strategy.

action

In the game, the player takes on the role of a park manager and, like John Hammond, has to create his own Jurassic park . Almost all of the dinosaurs from the three Jurassic Park films are available. First you create your own island on which the new park is to be built. Then it's time to build the park. The needs of the visitors have to be satisfied with snack bars, toilets and relaxation areas. However, not only the visitors have various demands, but also the actual attractions. The dinosaurs have to be fed, supplied with water or protected from diseases and of course in their own enclosures with various electric fences, safely exhibited. The visitors then have the opportunity with various attractions (e.g. dinosaur safari ) to see them up close, at least the herbivores, or the T-Rex from the air with a balloon. Depending on the size of the park and the satisfaction of the visitors, the park grows and you can extract new DNA with the help of excavated fossils (at the beginning you have only limited possibilities to clone some dinosaurs) and use it to breed new dinosaur species in the hatcheries. Not only do the electric fences ensure safety in the park, but you also have to build security rooms, watchtowers or surveillance cameras to reassure visitors.

This idyll is disturbed e.g. B. by dinosaurs running amok, cyclones or epidemics, which are then contained with the help of the research department and the ranger station with appropriate measures.

Gameplay

There are many different types of dinosaurs to clone, which can be individually selected through the use of expedition teams around the world. Depending on the location, these then mine the corresponding fossils for the new dinosaurs . You have different options in the game: It is possible to play 10 missions or an endless game in which you build your own park. In the beginning it is quite difficult to build a park with the budget, which is reflected in the long wait. But as soon as a few highlights can be seen in the park, the visitors come and you can set up more quickly, so it is a joy to see how the dinosaurs frolic in the park. In the game, you also have the option of flying a helicopter yourself to save visitors or to stun wild dinosaurs. All viewpoints in the game can be seen from a visitor's perspective. The 3D graphics are lovingly designed and convey the Jurassic Park atmosphere well in a resolution of 1024 * 768. The original soundtrack from the first and third Jurassic Park film provides the sound.

Dinosaurs in the game

The dinosaurs have a certain number of stars. The more stars a dinosaur has, the more popular it is and the faster the park will earn a five-star rating (the highest).

The dinosaurs are divided into 4 categories:

  • small herbivores
  • large herbivores
  • small carnivores
  • large carnivores

The security measures are also classified accordingly. There are 3 levels of fences:

  • Level 1: for peaceful herbivores
  • Level 2: for small carnivores and the triceratops
  • Level 3: for the huge and particularly dangerous dinosaurs on the island, e.g. B. Spinosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex

If these categories are not adhered to, a dinosaur running amok can easily break through the fence and break out, which in turn can lead to serious damage in the park and death. The individual steps of the fences must first be unlocked through research before they can be built.

The following dinosaurs are included in the game:
