The Jurien Island ( French Ile Jurien ) is a small island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located north of Cape Leguillou , the northern tip of Tower Island .
Participants of the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville mapped them for the first time. D'Urville named it on March 4, 1838 after the French Vice Admiral Pierre Roch Jurien de La Gravière (1772–1849), then commander of the military port of Toulon .
