Jussi Makkonen (born April 24, 1985 in Turku ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Porin Ässät in the Liiga since April 2016 .

Career

Jussi Makkonen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with Kiekko-67 Turku , in whose youth department he was active until 2002. Then the attacker moved to the A-Juniors of the city rivals TPS Turku , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2003/04 season . After two appearances in the main round, he was also in the playoffs for the championship, in the final of which TPS lost to rival Kärpät Oulu , in a game on the ice. In the following season he ran mainly for TuTo Turku in the second-rate Mestis , but also completed ten other missions for TPS in the SM-liiga, in which he was then a regular player until his move to HPK Hämeenlinna during the 2007/08 season .

At HPK Makkonen developed into a top performer, so that he scored 29 goals in a total of 63 games and made 33 assists in the 2008/09 season. The Finn was then committed by HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League . After 17 missions in the KHL, Club Makkonen sent a waiver to the partner team HK Schachzjor Salihorsk , which is participating in the Belarusian extra league.

In December 2009 Makkonen left Belarus after a game for Schachzjor and was signed by the Frölunda Indians . But Makkonen did not stay here for long either, switching to JYP Jyväskylä in January 2010 . In December of the same year he returned to his ex-club TPS Turku, where he ended the 2010/11 season. The following season he was committed by Tappara Tampere . With Tappara he won the Finnish runner-up in 2013. After this success, he left the club and initially played for LeKi in the Mestis, before he received a trial contract from the Espoo Blues in early October 2013 , which was extended to the end of the season at the end of the same month. In the 2015/16 season, he initially acted as the team's assistant captain, before being loaned to league rivals TPS in January 2016 until the end of the season.

International

For Finland Makkonen took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2005 , where he finished fifth with his team.
