biography
Washington grew up in Harlem , New York . In 1956 she joined the vocal group The Hearts, and began performing solo the following year. In 15 years it had 15 titles on the American R&B charts , most of them in the 1960s. The top-ranked songs are Only Those in Love from the summer of 1965 and That's How Heartaches Are Made from 1963, both of which reached # 10 on the R&B charts. That's How Heartaches Are Made is also the top-ranked Washington song on the US pop charts , where the song climbed to number 40. A total of eight singles made it into this hit parade.
In the 1970s, the success waned. With Forever and I've Got to Break Away , two more singles made it into the top 40 of the R&B charts in 1973. The singer's last chart listing was in 1975 when Can't Get Over Losing You climbed to # 88 on the R&B hit list. Baby Washington continued to perform live, most recently in 2008.
