Courtyard building

The Schelfstadt, originally the Schelfe , since 1349 also Neustadt , has developed as an initially independent place since the 11th century. In 1705 it received city rights. A later building regulation prescribed the eaves and the height of the houses.

On the property there was initially a three-storey, state-owned half-timbered building with a mansard hipped roof from the 18th century on a vaulted field stone foundation. In 1812 the Duke ordered that the official apartment of the Privy Council President Friedrich von Oertzen be rebuilt. The building on a basement floor was supplemented and extensively rebuilt in 1813 according to plans by the court architect Johann Georg Barca to form the two-storey 10-axis justice office in Schwerin. At that time there were also law offices in Mecklenburg in Güstrow , Neustrelitz and Rostock .

In 1837 the half-timbered facade was replaced by the classicist Renaissance-style facade with the arched windows, the gate and the strong cornice according to plans by court architect Georg Adolf Demmler . The law firm stayed here until September 1878 and then moved to Paulsstadt (Wismarsche Straße 133).

The building was renovated after 1991. Today (2020) there are law firms, company offices and the lawyers' pension fund here. The renovated two-storey 14-axis half-timbered building in the courtyard will a. used by an eye center. Behind the two buildings, four town houses were built by 2016 according to plans by Rimpel Leifels Architects .
