Justus of Trieste ( Italian San Giusto ; † around 303 in Aquileia ) is a holy martyr and patron saint of the diocese and the city of Trieste (memorial day: November 2nd ).

Successors of the Evangelist Mark spread Christianity in the area around Aquileia towards the end of the 1st century . Persecution and death awaited the members of the new ward. Justus suffered the martyrdom in Aquileia. They tied stones to his hands and feet and threw him into the sea. Despite the burden, Justus was washed ashore in Trieste a short time later and buried by the local community.

Originally Justus was consecrated his own church in Trieste, which was connected with the neighboring parallel church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the 14th century and combined to form today's Cathedral of San Giusto .

The representations of the saint are limited to Trieste, especially San Giusto. The oldest picture can be found in the apse mosaic of San Giusto from the 12th century. Here he appears together with St. Servolus next to Christ in the mandorla . His image on a kind of silk icon (silk painting) from the 12th century, part of the treasure of the Cathedral of San Giusto, is also famous.

The celebrations in Trieste take place the following day , November 3rd .
