Juval Diskin ( Hebrew יובל דיסקין, engl. Transcription Yuval Diskin; * 1956 ) is the former head of the Israeli domestic secret service Schin Bet from 2005 to 2011.

Life

During his service as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Diskin was, among other things, commander of the Sajeret Shaked special unit in the south of Israel. In 1978 he was hired by the Israeli domestic secret service Schin Bet, also known as Schabak, and subsequently worked for them in various positions. On May 15, 2005, Diskin was appointed director of the service, replacing Avi Dichter . On May 15, 2011, he was succeeded as director of the Schin Bet by Yoram Cohen .

In 2008 he warned that the evacuation of Israeli settlements could lead to gun violence on the part of the settlers. In April 2012 he criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policy on Iran and accused him and Defense Minister Ehud Barak of making decisions on the basis of “messianic feelings”.

In 2016 he took over the position of CEO of Cymotive Technologies .

Diskin received his Bachelor of Arts from Bar-Ilan University . In 2005 he had five children and was repeatedly married.

Diskin was one of the six interviewees of the Israeli film director Dror Moreh in his film Kill First (English: The Gatekeepers ) in 2012 . In the film, the six surviving former directors of Shin Bet spoke very openly about their work and their hopes and fears for the future of Israel and the Middle East. The film was released in Israeli cinemas in early 2013 and was broadcast in early March 2013 on both the Franco-German TV channel arte and ARD .
