K'inich Ahkal Mo 'Nahb III.
K'inich Ahkal Mo 'Nahb III. (* September 13, 678 ; † after 736 ) was a ruler ( Ajaw ) of the Maya city of Palenque . He ascended the throne on December 30, 721 .
Origin and family
K'inich Ahkal Mo 'Nahb III. was born on September 13, 678 ( long count 9.12.6.5.8, calendar round 3 Lamat 6 Sak) as the son of Prince Tiwol Chan Mat (* 647; † 680) and his wife Kinuw . He was thus a grandson of K'inich Janaab Pakal I (* 603, † 683), the most important ruler of Palenques. He was married to Men Nik . The future ruler K'inich K'uk 'Bahlam II emerged from the marriage. The immediate successor of K'inich Ahkal Mo 'Nahb III., K'inich Janaab Pakal II. Was probably his brother.
Reign
K'inich Ahkal Mo 'Nahb III. came to power after his uncle K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II (* 644; † around 721?) died, apparently without leaving any male heirs. His accession to the throne took place on December 30, 721 (9.14.10.4.2, 9 Ik '5 K'ayab). During his reign there were several military clashes in which a man named Chak Suutz 'emerged as the commander. The first took place in 723 and ended with the capture of three opposing nobles. The second followed in 725 and was directed against a place called K'ina ' , which was probably under the influence of Piedras Negras . A high dignitary from Piedras Negras was captured. In 729, two more campaigns against unknown locations followed, one of them in the course of a star war .
Construction activity
The construction activity of K'inich Ahkal Mo 'Nahb III. focused on the southeast of Palenque. South of the group of the cross he had temples XVIII, XVIIIa, XIX and XXI built. Temples XIX and XXI in particular have long inscriptions. Temple XIX was consecrated in 734 and passed into the possession of a high dignitary with the title yajaw k'ahk ' (lord of fire).
