The Kálfstindar are a volcanic mountain range on the connecting road Gjábakkaleið near the Lyngdalsheiði plateau in the south of Iceland .

The mountain range is located north of the connecting road from Þingvellir to Laugarvatn .
description
It is about 10 km long, oriented from southwest to northeast, i.e. H. the Icelandic rift zone following the mountain range.
Reyðarbarmur rises above the old slope as the southernmost branch . In this part of the mountain range there is also the Laugarvatnshellir cave , which was inhabited by a family for some time at the beginning of the 20th century, as indicated by signs.
In the northeast, the Kálfstindar are connected to the lower Laugarvatnsfjall mountain .
geology
It is a mountain range made of palagonite rock that was formed in one or more series of eruptions at a volcanic fissure under a glacier.
Hiking and mountaineering
It is best to park the car at Barmaskarð or in its vicinity, to walk northwest along the mountain range into Hrossadalur and from there to climb to the highest peak.
