Kálmán Vánky
Kálmán Géza Vánky (born June 15, 1930 in the Transylvania region , Romania ) is a Szekler- Hungarian Romanian mycologist who last lived in Germany . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Vánky ".
Life
Kálmán Vánky studied biology at the University of Bucharest and medicine at the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Natural Sciences and Technology Târgu Mureș . He then worked as a doctor, initially in Romania, and from 1969 in Sweden. He took Swedish citizenship. In 1985 he received his PhD in botany from Uppsala University . From 1986 he worked as a researcher at the Institute for Botany at the University of Tübingen .
He is the first to describe numerous types of smut fungi . The genus Vankya ( family Urocystidaceae , order Urocystales ) and several species were named after him.
