Károly Simonyi (physicist)
Károly Simonyi (born October 18, 1916 in Egyházasfalu , Kingdom of Hungary , † October 9, 2001 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian physicist .
Simonyi studied at the Technical University of Budapest and received his doctorate there to Dr.-Ing. - It was followed by a further doctorate at the Loránd Eötvös University (Dr. rer. Nat.). He was co-founder and deputy director of the Central Research Institute for Physics ( Központi Fizikai Kutatóintézet , KFKI) in Budapest / Csillebérc. The first nuclear reaction experiment in Hungary was carried out in 1951 with his 1 MeV - Van de Graaff generator .
From 1948 to 1989 he was Professor of Theoretical Electrical Engineering at the Institute of Electronics at the Technical University of Budapest.
His specialist books are still among the standard works in their respective fields.
Simonyi has two sons. Best known is Charles Simonyi (* 1948 as Károly Simonyi), both as a software developer (author of the word processing program Bravo , Word , Excel ) and as a space tourist .
