Royal Castles Romantic Marathon
The Königsschlösser Romantic Marathon (until 2007 King Ludwig Marathon ) is a marathon in Füssen that has been taking place in July since 2001.
Start and finish is on Reichenstraße in the old town of Füssen. From there it first goes north, where the Hopfensee is circled clockwise. To the south of the Neuschwanstein festival hall , you reach the Forggensee , past the southern tip of which you walk into the area of the municipality of Schwangau . At the level of the Bannwaldsee you leave the shores of the Forggensee and walk past the Tegelberg and the royal castles of Neuschwanstein (built by the patron saint of the run, Ludwig II ) and Hohenschwangau to the Schwansee. Then it goes south of Füssen past the High Castle on a loop through the Faulenbachtal. There is the only major ascent of the otherwise largely flat route to master before the route returns to its starting point.
The participation record with 750 runners at the finish (623 men, 127 women) was achieved in 2008.
